Overview on the Blockchain-Based Supply Chain Systematics and Their Scalability Tools

Modern IT technologies shaped the shift in economic models with many advantages on cost, optimization, and time to market. This economic shift has increased the need for transparency and traceability in supply chain platforms to achieve trust among partners. Distributed ledger technology (DLT) is proposed to enable supply chains systems with trust requirements. In this paper, we investigate the existing DLT-based supply chain projects to show their technical part and limitations and extract the tools and techniques used to avoid the DLT scalability issue. We then set the requirements for a typical DLT-based supply chain in this context. The analyses are based on the scalability metrics such as computing, data storage, and transaction fees that fit the typical supply chain system. This paper highlights the effects of Blockchain techniques on scalability and their incorporation in supply chains systems. It also presents other existing solutions that can be applied to the supply chain. The investigation shows the necessity of having such tools in supply chains and developing them to achieve an efficient and scalable system. The paper calls for further scalability enhancements throughout introducing new tools and/or reutilize the current ones. Doi: 10.28991/esj-2021-SP1-04 Full Text: PD

A mathematical evaluation for measuring correctness of domain ontologies using concept maps

There is a need for further research in the area of ontology evaluation specifically dealing with ontology development exploiting concept maps. The existing literature on ontology evaluation primarily emphasis on ontology formalisation as well as on performing logical inferences, which is usually not directly relevant for concept maps as they are commonly exploited as communication instruments for learning purposes. Commonly used techniques for evaluating concept maps for knowledge assessment may be adopted for a kind of criteria-based evaluation of a domain concept map with respect to a particular aspect. However, this makes its validity limited to a particular aspect or criteria. This paper presents a mathematical ontology evaluation technique to measure the correctness of domain ontologies engineered using concept maps. It is based on the notion of merging two different mathematical measures, namely closeness index and similarity index to come up with a combined index that takes different criteria or aspects into account while performing ontology evaluation. Therefore, the proposed technique makes the evaluation process more reliable and robust. Two case studies were conducted employing the proposed technique for evaluating two different domain ontologies that were engineered using concept maps. Calculations and results from the case studies showed that depending on the correctness of individual ontology, different values of combined Index was calculated manifesting the measure of correctness of each individual ontology in a quantifiable form. Moreover, the results depict that the technique provides in-depth evaluation, it is easy to adopt, requires no special skills, and is conveniently replicable

Model of Bayesian tangent eye shape for eye capture

Iris recognition system captures an image of an individual's eye. In addition, the process of segmentation, normalization and feature extraction is followed by the iris of an eye image in the system. Using the algorithms proposed by J. Daugman, Iris recognition system has significantly improved over the last decade, and it has been used in so many practical applications. However, some difficulties related to Iris position and movement are still to be improved. To overcome these difficulties one can enhance the image acquisition process. Obtaining a method in extracting quality of eye images automatically from the video stream is the main area of interest in this study. Besides, a Bayesian inference solution called Bayesian Tangent Eye Shape Model (BTESM) was suggested depending on estimation of tangent shape. During image acquisition, constraints on the position and motion of the subjects can be decreased owing to this approach. Owing to maximum a posteriori estimation, we can identify similarity transform coefficients as well as the eye shape parameters in BTESM. To apply the maximum a posteriori procedure, tangent Eye shape vector was considered the state of the model which is hidden and expectation maximization depending on searching algorithm was adopted. Hence, after being tested and matched to future studies, the acquisitioned eye image has been proved to be adequate for Iris recognition system
